When it comes to working out at the gym, one can make small adjustments to their daily workout to see big fitness results. For example, adjustments to one's cardio routine can be easy to make and deliver big results.
Cardio should be a full-body workout. Therefore, cardio sessions that only use equipment that works one's legs, such as treadmills, stair-steppers, and stationary bikes, won't yield the same results as equipment and activities that work the entire body. Sports like cross country skiing and swimming get the whole body engaged, as do machines with upper-body components like stair-steppers with pump handles.
Changing direction during your workout can also help. While walking forward on the treadmill is natural and easy, turning sideways and even backward can engage more muscle groups, due to the fact that these movements are uncommon and, therefore, more strenuous. Furthermore, climbing stairs or increasing the incline on the treadmill periodically can build bone strength and increase your heart rate for a better cardio workout.
